Repotting is supposed to be a fresh start, so it stings when your plant responds by dropping leaves. What you're seeing is transplant stress — a normal, if frustrating, reaction to root disturbance. When roots are disturbed, even carefully, the plant temporarily loses its ability to absorb water efficiently. To compensate, it sacrifices leaves it can no longer support, shedding them to reduce the moisture demand on a root system that is still recovering.

Sudden change in soil moisture and texture
