This reduces the surface area exposed to heat and slows water loss through the leaf pores (stomata). Heat stress is one of the more overlooked causes of leaf curl because the air temperature in a home rarely feels dangerously hot to us. But a plant sitting inches from a south-facing pane in July, or directly above a baseboard heater, can experience localized temperatures well above 90 °F — enough to cause real physiological stress within hours. HVAC vents blast dry air at temperatures that fluctuate widely. Hot air from a heating vent desiccates foliage and raises local temperatures; even cold air from an AC vent can stress plants and cause curling by stripping humidity rapidly.

Proximity to heat-emitting appliances

Radiators, baseboard heaters, the top of a television, or sitting on top of a refrigerator all create a warm microclimate that keeps leaf tissue persistently hot and the surrounding air bone dry.

High ambient temperature combined with low humidity

During summer heat waves, or in very dry centrally heated homes in winter, the combination of warmth and low relative humidity accelerates transpiration faster than roots can replace moisture, causing leaves to curl as a conservation response.

If the soil is actually moist but the leaves are still curling, and the plant is near a heat source or sunny window, heat stress is the more probable culprit. Often both factors are happening together, since heat accelerates soil drying.

Will curled leaves go back to normal once I move the plant?

Leaves that curled recently and have no browning or damage usually relax and flatten back out within a few days of being moved to a cooler, more humid spot.
