Tap Water, Filtered Water, and Rain Water: Choosing the Right Water for Your Houseplants

Not all water is created equal, and the water coming out of your tap can vary enormously depending on where you live. Some cities deliver water that's heavily chlorinated or rich in dissolved minerals; others supply water that's nearly as soft as rain. These differences are mostly invisible — but your plants notice them, especially over months of repeated watering.
